DIU Faculty led the Educational Outreach Program to Encourage the Underrepresented Groups to Study in Areas where they are underrepresented

A group of researchers, led (deputy) by DIU faculty Mr. A.B.M. Nazmul Islam conducted several activities related to the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development involving female students from remote villages, supported by ISP. The group visited the Sahapara Parveen Sorony girls’ school and college in Shibganj, Chapai Nawabganj district. The village lies in a remote area. Educational institutions in these areas are experiencing student dropouts, especially the girls. The covid-19 pandemic made the dropouts even worse, since financially challenged parents find it burdensome for sending their girls to school.
Although the basic sciences physics, chemistry and mathematics are taught to the students, there is a lack of proper knowledge and scientific demonstrations. In order to inspire the girl students to study science, BAN:05 arranged a workshop on handling and maintenance of scientific instruments and tools. To attract students some chemistry experiments involving magic fire demonstration, ghost fumes etc. were shown.
