Collaboration with NGOs to tackle the SDGs

1. DIU and Ain O Shalish Kendra (ASK) jointly organized “UPR and Bangladesh: Dialogue with Youths”

Daffodil Legal Research Centre (DLRC) and Ain O Shalish Kendra (a human rights-based NGO) jointly organized a program titled “UPR and Bangladesh: Dialogue with Youths” held at Daffodil International University (DIU) on September 27, 2022. Representatives of the ASK conducted the dialogue. Around 30 students participated in the dialogue. Professor Dr. S. M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro Vice Chancellor of DIU, Professor A. M. M. Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), Dr. Kudrat-E-Khuda Babu, Professor and Head of the Department of Law, and Abu Ahmed Faijul Kabir, Senior Coordinator of Advocacy and Networking of the ASK addressed in the inaugural session of the program. Md. Riaduzzaman, Assistant Professor of Law moderated the program.

2. Collaboration with Sheva Nari O Shishu Kallyan Kendra & REVIVAL (NGO) to identify Challenges of Jamdani Weavers
The Department of Architecture, Daffodil International University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sheva Nari O Shishu Kallyan Kendra & REVIVAL, Chattogram, Bangladesh (NGO) for collaboration in protecting local heritage of Jamdani.
The Department of Architecture, Daffodil International University (DIU) and REVIVAL & Sheva, under the agreement, organized a three-day long participatory residential research workshop on “Design-BUILD of Jamdani Weaver’s House to Achieve SDGs” during 23-25 June 2022 at Boragaon, Sonargaon, Narayanganj, Bangladesh. The workshop was conducted at the house of Md. Jamal Hossain, a master weaver from Sonargaon, who used to weave with a thread count of 200 to 300. Students from 9 universities and architects, and professionals from 5 different organizations worked tirelessly day and night to document the weaving process, the living condition and challenges faced by the weavers, and the context of the village. Sheikh Muhammad Rezwan, Head, Department of Architecture, DIU and Huda Mohammed Faisal, Co-founder, Revival facilitated the workshop with the help of Sheva. The workshop helped to identify challenges faced by Jamdani weavers and to find strategies to overcome those and to formulate necessary policy to ensure protection of local cultural heritage of “Jamdani”.

3. Collaboration with Sir William Beverage Foundation to Organize Youth Summit on Aging

Daffodil International University’s Social Business Students Forum; Aging Support Forum in collaboration with the Sir William Beverage Foundation jointly organized the ‘Youth Summit on Aging-2021’ on 14 October 2022 based on the theme “Digital equivalence for all age” at Daffodil Education Network Campus.
As part of the summit a workshop on “How to use mobile phone technology” was arranged for the elderly persons of the society. Major General (Rtd.) Jiban Kanai Das, Country Director of the Sir William Beverage Foundation inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest. Tasmima Hossain, Editor of The Daily Ittefaq and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Masum Iqbal, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship of Daffodil International University were present as special guests. Hasan Ali, President of Aging Support Forum presided over the program. Former BSCIC general manager Manjuara Begum, SBSF vice-president Mr. Rakibul Islam, General Secretary Mr. Mehdi Hassan Khan of Daffodil International University were also present at the program.
The 5th edition of the Summit was held under the theme ‘Veteran in Technology’. Senior citizens from different parts of the country participated in the summit. Major General Jiban Kanai Das said, ‘We don’t know how much information and how massive utility we have on our mobiles, but today we have the opportunity to discover it’. He also thanked the mentors of the event and said, ‘Today we understand that the way our young generation mentored us, the country is safe in their hands in the future.’ For the elderly, he said, age is just a number, you still have a lot to enjoy. Speaking as the special guest, Tasmima Hossain said that the availability of internet during the corona period has helped many people to spend their time. We should all have one in mind-soul-commitment. As one generation moves forward, another generation moves forward holding their hands and this is a continuous trend.

4. Research Collaboration with Human Development Research Centre to ensure Zero Hunger
The Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering (NFE), DIU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Human Development Research Centre (HDRC) at the conference room of Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia, Dhaka. Ms. Fouzia Akter, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering, DIU and Mr. Faisal M Ahamed, Director, Human Development Research Centre (HDRC) signed MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. The purpose of the MoU is to set out the working arrangements, so that NFE and HDRC can work together to complete various research studies/assignments/projects, share and exchange expertise and provide support to each other’s development for availing nutritious food in affordable price to ensure zero hunger (SDG 2).

5. Collaboration with South Asia Center for Media in Development
Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMC), Daffodil International University (DIU) signed MoU with South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) recently. Mr. Nazar-E-Zilani, Member, Board of Trustees, SACMID and Mr. Aftab Hossain, Head of JMC Department, DIU signed MoU on behalf of respective organizations. DIU and SACMID will jointly organize various campaigns, so that students in higher education are interested in more research. Both institutions will work under this MoU to improve and provide quality education to the students in a real sense. Moreover, they will work together to engage students in global journalism and communication to ensure freedom of expression and global peace. For that, the institutions will jointly organize various types of training, seminars and conferences at the national and international levels.

6. Global Money Week celebration in Collaboration with Watermark, inspiring Bangladesh and FSIBL Bank
With the theme ‘build your future, be smart about money’, the Global Money Week 2022 was organized by Daffodil International University & Bangladesh Skill Development Institute in collaboration with Watermark, inspiring Bangladesh and FSIBL Bank during 21-27 March 2022 at DIU premises. 176 countries took part in the event to create awareness among the young generation regarding financial issues with strong money management skills. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development hosted this campaign globally which reached 176 countries and 53 million children globally.

7. Workshop on Engaging University Students with UNODC Educational Materials TIP & SOM Modules

The Department of Law, Daffodil International University in collaboration with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with the support of its GLO ACT-Bangladesh Project, organized a Workshop titled “Engaging University Students with UNODC Educational Materials TIP & SOM Modules” on 11 June 2022 at Professor Aminul Islam Seminar Hall, Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia. The program was arranged to familiarize the UNODC education for justice TIP and SOM university level modules with the students of the Law Department of Daffodil International University, and also to explore the opportunity to engage them in awareness raising about human trafficking and migrant smuggling.

The program has been graced by the kind presence of Prof. Dr. S.M. Mahbub-Ul-Haque Majumder, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Engr. A. K. M. Fazlul Hoque, Registrar, Professor A. M.M. Hamidur Rahman, Dean, FHSS, DIU, Mr. A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh & Head of Chamber, I.H. Khan & Associates and respected faculty members of Dept. of Law.

8. DIU & BSHRM Jointly Organized 9th International Human Recourse Conference -2022
Bangladesh Society for Human Resources Management (BSHRM) and Daffodil International University (DIU) jointly hosted the 9th International Human Resource Conference -2022 on 16 June, 2022 at 71 Milonayoton of Daffodil Education Network, Sobhanbagh, Dhaka.

9. Collaboration with Bangladesh Women in IT
A seminar on “Design Your Career as IT Entrepreneurship and Grow" was held at Daffodil International University, Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia. The members of the Girls Computer Programming Club of DIU participated in the seminar, which was jointly organized by Bangladesh Women in IT (BWIT) and Daffodil International University. The seminar was chaired by Vice President of BWIT, Ms. Nazneen Kamal. Ms. Ambareen Reza, Co-Founder, Foodpanda and Ms. Nigar Sultana, Director, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), TMSS delivered their speech as the speakers of the session. Professor Dr. Touhid Bhuiyan, Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, DIU along with other distinguished faculties were present at the seminar.
