Conferences and Dialogues on SDGs in Partnerships with the Government, Research Institutes and NGOs

1. Webinar on, "Maritime Sustainability for Agenda 2030"
The fifth webinar of the series titled, "Maritime Sustainability for Agenda 2030" was co-hosted with Global Compact Network Bangladesh (GCNB) and Daffodil International University on July 28 over Zoom. The topic of the webinar is related to SDG: Life below Water. The session convened high-level speakers and experts in the Maritime Industry. The speakers gave an overview of the Global Maritime Industry, shared insights on the current critical sustainability issues, success and challenges related to the Maritime Industry and our progress towards the agenda 2030.

2. Virtual Youth Symposium on Mitigating Waste Management and Net Carbon Emissions
Virtual Youth Symposium on Mitigating Waste Management and Net Carbon Emissions was jointly organized by Social Business Students' Forum (SBSF), Bangladesh, and Nexense Social Business Club (NSBC), Belgium with the support of International Affairs, DIU.
After providing quality inputs through panel discussions of two major issues delivered by the local and foreign speakers- Fahim Uddin Shuvo, Founder and Managing Director, GARBAGEMAN, Bangladesh & Jérome Meessen, International Expert, Energy & Climate Change Consultant at Climact, Belgium, the discussions ended with Question & Answering Sessions. The discussants from Bangladesh and Belgium who have been in the chair of panel discussions circulated in advancing discussions on “Sustainable Process of Waste Treatment" and "Race to Reach Zero Net Carbon Emissions" from the perspectives of respective countries.
The program was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Masum Iqbal, Convener of SBSF & Dean, Faculty of Business & Entrepreneurship, DIU as the Special Guest. The symposium was attended by more than hundred participants from Bangladesh, Belgium, and other different countries along with organizers of this program.

3. DIU Represented in 17th ASECU Conference related to SDGs
As an Associate Member, Daffodil International University (DIU) virtually joined the 17th ASECU Conference on Post-COVID19 in SEE and Black Sea Region – Responses Towards SDGs hosted by the University of Belgrade, Serbia during 13 -14 September 2021. It was also the 25 years’ anniversary of the Association.

4. Policy Dialogue with the largest Business Chamber of Bangladesh (DCCI) on Industry Academia Linkage
Daffodil International University (DIU) and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) jointly organized a webinar on Industry Academia Linkage: The New Frontier for accelerating development to achieve the fourth industrial revolution (4IR). The stakeholders from the Government sector, business sector, higher education sector, civil society, researchers, practitioners etc. attended the webinar discussed the possible ways of formulating a suitable policy for accommodating industry-academia linkage in higher education sector.
The resource person, discussants, chief guest and others laid emphasis on working together between universities and private sectors to convert the country's youth population into skilled human capital and a suitable policy will facilitate the way. Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University presented the keynote paper in the webinar. Honorable Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni and UGC Chairman Prof. Dr. Kazi Shahidullah graced the webinar as the Chief Guest and Special Guest respectively.

5. DIU Representatives attended the 2020-21 Sustainable Development Transformation Forum. SDTF
DIU Representatives attended the 2020-21 Sustainable Development Transformation Forum. SDTF 2020/21, organized by United Nations Office for Sustainable Development in partnership with ASEF, will focus on the opportunities presented by COVID-19 for recovery pathways towards a just and sustainable economy.

6. Collaboration with Asia-Europe Foundation in Organizing ASEF Summer University 2021 on “Liveable Cities for a Sustainable Future” (SDG-11)
Asia-Europe Foundation – ASEF in partnership with Daffodil International University (DIU), Bangladesh and other international partners organized the 23rd ASEF Summer University 2021 (ASEFSU23) on “Liveable Cities for a Sustainable Future” (SDG-11). DIU has been playing a significant role as the country representative of Bangladesh. This is a 3-month long (Sep-Nov) virtual Hackathon programme to encourage youths from over 40 countries to develop digital prototypes that can contribute to solving crucial challenges linked to urban issues in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. As a part of the consecutive segments of the Hackathon, a web session on ‘Creating Clean Cities: Tackling Waste Management in Dhaka’ was organized on October 21, 2021. It was a great gathering of Waste Management practicing organizations and expert speakers in this field to disseminate Bangladesh perspectives among the dynamic local and international attendees.
Mr. Tariq bin Yousuf, Additional Chief Engineer & Project Director, Dhaka North City Corporation along with Mr. Khadem Mahmud Yusuf, Managing Director & CEO of Bangladesh Petrochemical Company Ltd. (BPCL) have been the speakers to share present practices, future ventures of this industry, and challenges of this field in the country's perspective. The session was moderated by Mr. Sheikh Mohammad Rezwan, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Architecture, DIU who is also a practitioner of the same kind. The session provided the participants with local insights and introduced contemporary burning issues as well as updated them on the diverse challenges linked to waste management in Dhaka Metropolitan Area.

7. Webinar on "Reenergizing the Economy through Sustainable Finance"
Daffodil International University along with the Global Compact Network Bangladesh (GCNB) organized the webinar on "Reenergizing the Economy through Sustainable Finance" February 24, 2021. The high-level speakers and experts in the areas of sustainable finance shared their insights into the concept of sustainable finance, its role and importance in funding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ways of rebuilding and reenergizing the economy in response to COVID-19 as well as shared the best practice examples of using sustainable finance as a guiding principle for growth, innovation and development.

8. DIU Student Attended SDGs Related Joint International Porgram
Mouduna Tanjeem Khan, a student of Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management, Daffodil International University joined the UMAP COIL Joint program-2021 organized by University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) in collaboration with IIGE (Institute for Innovative Global Education), Kansai University, Japan. Over 80 students of various backgrounds from Japan, Mexico, Bangladesh, Thailand, Philippines, and United States participated in the program.
Participants discussed their opinions about the current status of the goals in random groups such as SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), etc. An idea-generation activity was also assigned to help tackle the problems the world currently faces in achieving the goals.

9. DIU Chairman Delivered Keynote speech on Sustainability in Higher Education in the 'Madayaw International Multidisciplinary Research Conference 2021'
San Pedro College, Philippines organized 'Madayaw International Multidisciplinary Research Conference 2021' on 25-26 August 2021 in collaboration with Asia Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) and the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), with the aim at highlighting internationalization, linkages, community engagement, innovation and research.
Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Founder and Chairman, Daffodil International University (DIU), AUAP First Vice President delivered the keynote of a session on ‘Sustainability in Higher Education: Teaching- Learning after Covid-19’; where he has shared new dimensions of teaching-learning strategies to be followed in institutional level for ensuring sustainability in Education. Top academicians, international industry leaders, scientists, and policy-makers have joined the conference as the speakers and shared their experiences, expertise, insights, and thoughts in the light of this global crisis.

10. Organized International Symposium on ‘The Significance of Regional Cooperation in Higher Education (SDG 4)’
The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Daffodil International University (DIU) organized an international symposium on ‘International Symposium on the Significance of Regional Cooperation 2021’ to ensure the quality assurance in higher education’ on 6 July, 2021, in a virtual platform, followed by three vital parallel sessions. Renowned quality education (QA) practitioners, academicians and government officials of India, Malaysia, Nepal, China, Turkey and host Bangladesh presented 12 Papers in the sessions. Professor Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Acting Vice Chancellor of DIU chaired the inaugural session.
Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, MP graced the event as the Chief Guest and said that the Government of Bangladesh is very much aware of the need to develop regional cooperation and relations. The government is already working with regional associations on the issues such as higher education, climate change, women's empowerment, economic development and more related to achieving the SDGs of the UN. He said such seminar and symposium would accelerate regional cooperation and bondage in the development of higher education.

11. e-talk on Challenges of Online Teaching and Learning during Covid-19
Department of Real Estate of Daffodil International University and University of Malaya, Malaysia jointly organized an e-talk Challenges of Online Teaching and Learning during Covid-19 on 19 March 2021. The webinar was an example of cross border collaboration on online and blended education for ensuring quality of education (SDG 4).

12. Webinar on "Mobile Communication in Bangladesh Challenges of the Future": Industry Partnership
The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Daffodil International University in association with Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) organized a cross-sectoral webinar on "Mobile Communication in Bangladesh Challenges of the Future" on 14 March 2021. The webinar was organized to identify the challenges of mobile communication sector in Bangladesh which is relevant to the SDG 9 (Industry & Innovation).

13. Co-hosted the International Web Conference on TRICE along with Bicol University, Philippines
Daffodil International University (DIU) co-hosted the International Web Conference on Technology Research, Innovation, and Commercialization in Entrepreneurship (TRICE) 2021 along with the Bicol University, Philippines and other partners from Belgium, Taiwan, Philippines, India and more during 5 to 7 July 2021. A team of DIU actively took part in the conference. Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Founder & Chairman, DIU presented a Welcome Speech in the Opening Ceremony of this 3-day long virtual conference. Prof. Dr. Touhid Bhuiyan, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering joined the conference as one of the Keynote Speakers and talked about “Trifocal Alliance of Industry-Academe-Government Partnership: The Asian Experience”. Besides, Md. Kamruzzaman, Head, Department of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, DIU also actively joined Fireside Chats on “Technology Commercialization and Innovation Landscape in the Emerging Economies” as one of the session speakers. Throughout the conference, the speakers talked about inclusion strategies in teaching and learning and shared their optimism in the field of entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology-focused research outcomes. DIU students from different departments also joined the conference to learn more about the Industry-Academia policies and research prospects from different regional perspectives.

14. ECI Organized Webinar on ‘Effect of Non-Tariff Measures in Trade between Bangladesh and India'
The Enterprise Competitiveness Institute (ECI), DIU in cooperation with International Affairs (IA), DIU organized the Webinar on ‘Effect of Non-Tariff Measures in Trade between Bangladesh and India' on July 13, 2021. The aim of the event was to address the Non-Tariff Measures issue in trade between Bangladesh and India and NTM is an important area of International Trade (SDG 9). Moreover, such a webinar was also useful for the trade related policy makers and international agencies as well.
Two international speakers: Dr. R Sugant, Dean School of Management & School of Economics and Commerce, CMR University Bangalore, India and Dr. Ranjeesh Kler, Associate Director (Planning and Monitoring) and Head, Department of Economics, School of Business and Economics, Adamas University, Kolkata, India attended as the key speakers of the event. Two national speakers Mr. Md. Mamun-Ur-Rashid Askari, Deputy Chief of Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, Government of Bangladesh and Mr. Nafees Imtiaz Islam, Deputy Director, IQAC, DIU stressed on different NTM issues.

15. Co-hosted with Toros Üniversitesi, Turkey to organize the International Symposium on Current Approaches & New Trends in Social Sciences
Daffodil International University (DIU) co-hosted along with Toros Üniversitesi, Turkey in cooperation with seven other international institutions from different countries to organize the International Symposium on Current Approaches & New Trends in Social Sciences (ISCANT) during 24-25 June 2021. More than 140 research papers were presented during the two-day long virtual conference. Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Founder & Chairman, DIU presented a Keynote Speech at the conference on ‘Digitization and Entrepreneurship: Post Pandemic Strategies’. The symposium was very much effective and interactive for business & social science focused academicians and students to get research-based information of current situation and opened a new avenue for partnership in sustainable development in education and research.

16. DIU Chairman talked on “Educational Leadership in the Pandemic: The Changing Paradigm”
University of Cabuyao, Philippines organized Education Summit-2 with the theme “Building Educational Leadership: Thriving in Times of Change” on June 25, 2021. The summit aimed at creating research partnerships both institutionally and subject-wise. Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Founder & Chairman, Daffodil International University presented a talk on “Educational Leadership in the Pandemic: The Changing Paradigm” where educators and teachers, students from the Southeast Asian countries joined to learn and discuss current issues affecting the field of education both in the local and international setting that would pave the way for further implementation of quality of education (SDG 4).



17. DIU representatives Attended AASHE conference on Sustainability in Higher Education
UThe Global Conference on Sustainability in Higher Education was held during 12-14 October 2021. It brought together sustainability leaders from around the world in a virtual format who shared effective models, policies, research, collaborations and transformative actions that advance sustainability in higher education and surrounding communities. As a Promotional Partner, DIU’s representatives took part in the AASHE conference. With a theme of “The future is…”, this year’s Global Conference on Sustainability in Higher Education reflected the uncertainty about the future that many feel. It also urged participants to recommit themselves to the urgent work of building a future that is sustainable, equitable, and resilient.

18. DIU students participated in the 2021 YZU Smart Living x IoT Online Workshop
DIU students have participated in the 2021 YZU Smart Living x IoT Online Workshop from 11– 21 January 2021, organized by Global Affairs Office, Yuan Ze University (YZU), Taiwan. The workshop featured a variety of courses related to 5G, AI, and Smart Living, and explored the possibilities in the future world of IoT. DIU participants joined this online workshop and have shared their ideas about the Smart Living and IoT field, and also collaborated with the participants around the globe. YZU professors and lecturers carried out online flipped classrooms during the workshop and participants ran IoT-related projects.

19. DIU Team Joined the SDGs Focused ‘Working Across Borders’ of UCLL, Belgium
A group of 17 students and 2 faculty members from the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship, Daffodil International University (DIU) joined the ‘Working Across Borders’ project hosted by UC Leuven-Limburg, Belgium which aims at connecting students around the globe where the students will work on creating business solutions and formulating ideas based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Almost 500 students from 11 Universities of Canada, Holland, Slovenia, Italy, Finland, Indonesia, Germany, Russia, Bangladesh, Belgium and Ecuador joined the virtual learning project.
