Daffodil International University
Research Funding and Partnerships
Rationale
The Division of Research of DIU is striving to establish a sustainable research culture in the university for the last four years. We have been successful in doing that to a great extent as the faculty members have yielded more than 1300 Scopus indexed publications in the recent years. The research culture experienced here at DIU is based on collaboration philosophy in the form of internal collaboration among the group members within the respective departments, cross discipline collaboration within the university, external collaboration with the local and foreign university faculty members. Subsequently, DIU has become a pioneer in generating quality research outcomes in Bangladesh. DIU is also recognized as a part of international communities of universities as it has obtained impressive positions in several university rankings. However, laboratory based experimental research outcomes of our faculty members are sporadic. Strategic planning and policy guidelines are inevitable to fill up the existing research and publication gaps especially in the area of experimental research.
Our Intention
- Strengthen research collaboration with different government research institutions, and the private and public universities in Bangladesh.
- Boost up research capacity building approach of the academic departments of DIU through partnerships and implementation of quality research projects.
- Enhance reputation and recognition of DIU through discovery and innovations.
Policy Guidelines
- Daffodil International University will offer a generous research funding to their faculty members and researchers for conducting research into latest areas of any discipline if the research is conducted jointly with the faculty members/ researchers of other universities (both public and private) and government research institutes.
- This research grant will be awarded twice a year especially, in January and July every year but the proposals may be submitted to the Director of Division of Research any time of the six-month’s cycles. Invitations for submitting research proposals will be circulated accordingly.
The principal investigator will endorse that the research proposal has not been summited to elsewhere by the research team.
- Any faculty member or groups regardless of the positions may prepare a research project as the principal investigator in collaboration with the above mentioned universities/research institutions. Students of the respective departments will be involved in the proposed project.
Alternatively, the researches of other universities/ institutions may prepare and lead the project as the principle investigator while DIU faculty members must take the responsibilities of co-investigators of the project.
- The faculty members and the students of DIU who are involved in the project will be allowed to conjoin with the researchers of the partner universities for working in their labs if necessary.
- Foreign university delegates or researchers may be invited to work for the proposed research project for a short duration (one/two weeks). In this case, both ways airfare, accommodation, food, local transport and other relevant expenses may be covered from the project.
- The project proposal will contain mainly details of the project team including the partners, project idea and problem statement, a summary of latest review of literature to indicate the research gaps, research design and methods, requirements, expected outcomes, and budget (especially a Gantt chart). The structure of the proposal may vary as per the aligned disciplines. The proposal must include CV of the principal and co-investigators.
- Evaluation of the proposals will be completed by the experts as per certain guidelines such as, novelty of the project, area of investigation, relevance to the needs of the society, synchronization of the various stages, rational budget statement, experience and capability of the investigators etc.
- The maximum duration of the project will be 24 months. However, it may be extended if proper justifications are given by the principal investigators.
- Maximum award money for such a research project will be 2500000 (twenty five lacs) BDT. One of the DIU faculty members involved in the project will endure the responsibilities of best use of the funding as a Co-investigator. The proposal may have more than one Co-investigators.
- The budget of the project may cover (i) cost of data collection and analysis, (ii) purchase of equipment, technical devise and chemicals, (iii) cost for small group discussions among the researchers for decision making (iii) accessories, (iv) hiring foreign experts/ researchers, (v) dissemination workshops, (vi) journal publication expenses and (vii) contingencies. Any other vindicated cost may also be accepted.
- The principal investigator will submit a half yearly progress report to the management of DIU through the Director of Division of Research. A final report will also be submitted by the principal investigator after completion.
