Comprehensive Scholarship and Financial Aid Programs
DIU has made a significant commitment to reducing financial barriers for students from low-income families through a variety of scholarships and financial aid programs. In 2023, the university provided over 300 students with full waivers or 100% financial aid, ensuring that their entire cost of education was covered. Additionally, 7,100 students received partial scholarships, allowing them to manage the financial burden associated with higher education. By 2024, these numbers had increased substantially, with more than 350 students benefiting from full financial aid and a remarkable 9365 students receiving partial scholarships. This impressive increase reflects DIU’s ongoing dedication to expanding educational opportunities for financially disadvantaged students, aligning with their mission to promote social equity and support students in achieving academic success.
High Percentage of Financial Aid Recipients
The report highlights a dramatic rise in the number of students receiving financial support, with 59% of the student body benefiting from financial aid in 2024, compared to 43% in 2023. This significant percentage indicates DIU’s proactive approach to ensuring that financial difficulties do not prevent talented and deserving students from pursuing higher education. By allocating a large portion of its resources to financial aid, DIU emphasizes the importance of educational inclusivity, particularly for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Focused Support for Female and Underrepresented Students
DIU has placed a strong emphasis on gender equity and the support of underrepresented groups. In 2024, around 5,000 female students received financial assistance, illustrating the university’s commitment to empowering women through education. This initiative aims to address gender disparities and promote equal opportunities for women in higher education. Additionally, DIU provided scholarships to 471 students from underrepresented communities, demonstrating a concerted effort to uplift and support diverse populations. These measures are crucial for fostering a more inclusive academic environment, where students from all backgrounds have the chance to succeed and contribute meaningfully to society.
Subsidized Accommodation and Food Services
Recognizing that the cost of living can be a significant obstacle for students from low-income families, DIU offers subsidized accommodation and food services. In 2024, 3,486 male and 1,873 female students were able to access affordable housing, reducing their financial burden and creating a more supportive living environment. Moreover, the university provided subsidized food to over 10,000 students, ensuring that basic nutritional needs were met without added financial strain. These services not only alleviate economic pressures but also contribute to the overall well-being and academic performance of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“One Student One Laptop” Initiative
To bridge the digital divide and ensure equal access to technology, DIU implemented the “One Student One Laptop” initiative, which provides free laptops to students who would otherwise be unable to afford them. By 2023-24, the program had distributed over 45,000 laptops, empowering students from financially constrained families to engage fully in their academic programs and develop essential IT and digital skills. This initiative is particularly impactful in an era where digital literacy and access to technology are critical for academic and professional success. By addressing technology accessibility, DIU ensures that all students, regardless of their financial situation, are equipped to thrive in the modern digital world.
Interest-Free Student Loans
In addition to scholarships and subsidies, DIU offers interest-free loans to students facing financial hardships. This program is designed to assist those who may not qualify for full scholarships but still require financial support to complete their studies. The loans provide flexibility and enable students to pay back the amount after securing employment, further easing the financial burden and ensuring that education remains accessible to students from all economic backgrounds.
Merit-Based and Need-Based Aid Combination
DIU has structured its financial aid programs to combine both merit-based and need-based assistance. This approach ensures that high-achieving students from low-income families are recognized and rewarded for their academic performance while also receiving the financial support they need. The university’s holistic financial aid system is designed to uplift students who demonstrate potential but are held back by economic limitations, contributing to a more inclusive and diverse student population.

Educational Visits to Low-Income Settlements
DIU’s Department of Real Estate organizes educational visits to low-income settlements in Dhaka, allowing students to study the challenges of urban poverty firsthand. These visits include analyzing housing conditions, affordability, and available amenities, providing students with a deeper understanding of urban inequality and inspiring potential solutions. This outreach activity contributes to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and promotes experiential learning as part of SDG 4.
Full Scholarships for Displaced Students
Demonstrating a commitment to supporting displaced populations, DIU granted full scholarships to 50 female students from Gaza, Palestine. This outreach effort ensures access to higher education for those affected by displacement, promoting SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). By providing educational opportunities to displaced individuals, DIU plays a crucial role in fostering inclusivity and global solidarity.
DIU & Prime Islami Life Insurance Aid Students in Need
