Shared Sports Facilities with the Local Community

Shared Sports Facilities with the Local Community

Daffodil International University (DIU) explicitly supports physical health and community engagement by providing public access to its high-quality sports infrastructure, thereby promoting physical activity and well-being beyond the university population.

1. Active Sharing of Sports Infrastructure

DIU ensures that its significant investment in athletic infrastructure serves the broader local community, strengthening physical health outcomes (SDG 3) through shared resources.

  • Sharing World-Class Facilities: DIU actively engages with the local community by sharing its world-class sports facilities (including its international-standard football field) with external groups, such as local schools or the general public. This direct sharing of resources ensures that community members, who might otherwise lack access to premium sporting grounds, can participate in organized and informal physical activities.
  • Fostering Community Ties: The act of sharing these facilities fosters stronger community ties and directly promotes physical activity and fitness, which is central to SDG 3.

2. Community Sports Development and Capacity Building

Beyond passive access, DIU leverages its academic expertise in sports science to actively promote and improve community-based physical activities.

  • Grassroots Football Development: The Department of Physical Education & Sports Science (PESS) hosted a discussion on "The Grassroots Football Development in Bangladesh: A Path to Success." This event brought together sports experts and academics to discuss how to build a stronger football culture by scouting and nurturing local talent. This initiative promotes community-based sports activities as a driver for national well-being and positive youth engagement, aligning with SDG 4 (Quality Education) by creating educational pathways in sports.

3. Promoting Well-being Through Shared Events

DIU utilizes its facilities to host events that promote health for internal staff who are part of the local community workforce, demonstrating a commitment to their well-being (SDG 8).

  • Promoting Employee Well-being: DIU organized a special sports tournament for its below officers (support staff) to celebrate their hard work and dedication. While focused on internal staff, this commitment extends good health practices to the university's local workforce, aligning with SDG 3 and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).

This demonstrated commitment to sharing and actively promoting the use of its sports facilities underscores DIU's role as a key community partner for promoting physical health and well-being.
