DIU Students Joined COP29 Simulation 2024 in Egypt
DIU students Fatema Tuj Juhura Sadia, and Md Tahmid Chowdhury represented Bangladesh at COP29 Simulation 2024 hosted by The British University in Egypt in-collaboration with UNDP Egypt and ADA University from 4 to 10 October, 2024. Their hard work, research and Online Capacity-Building Programmes allowed them to receive fully-funded scholarships to attend this global event of many dialogues & sessions focusing on the SDGs, diplomacy and Climate Action.
PEER Asia Forum Organized by USAID and NASEM in Thailand
Professor Dr. A.B.M. Kamal Pasha, Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management (ESDM) at DIU, participated in the PEER Asia forum, held in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 20-22, 2024. Organized by USAID and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), the forum provided a platform for Dr. Pasha to present findings from his collaborative project, "Unmanned Aerial Systems-Based Assessment of Tree Cover and Deforestation Dynamics in Bangladesh." His research, conducted under the theme of Environmental Monitoring and Ecosystem Services, utilized UAVs (drones) for cost-effective, high-precision imaging of forest canopies in the Sal and Sundarbans forests. The project’s use of UAVs to generate geo-referenced canopy data exemplifies innovative environmental monitoring practices, aligning with SDG 15 (Life on Land) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by contributing to better forest management and ecosystem protection.
Collaboration with APUB, Pan Asian Group, and Spiral World for Bangladesh Education Forum 2023 in Dubai
The 2nd edition of the Bangladesh Education Forum 2023, organized jointly by APUB, Pan Asian Group, and Spiral World and powered by DIU was held at Crowne Plaza Deira, Dubai, UAE. This event showcased Bangladesh's education system and aimed to build a global network of educators and stakeholders, contributing to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting educational standards and international collaboration. Data related to higher education in Dubai was the major objective of this collaborative effort.
Research Survey (Data) Collaboration with Titas Gas Limited
The Department of Software Engineering of DIU collaborated with Titas Gas Limited to conduct a Customer Satisfaction Survey aimed at gathering insights to enhance service quality. This research aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by promoting the development of resilient infrastructure and fostering innovation within the industry. By identifying areas for improvement based on customer feedback, the survey contributes to optimizing service delivery, ultimately supporting sustainable industrial practices and enhancing customer satisfaction in the energy sector.
Fostering International Collaboration for Sustainable Development Goals Through Storytelling
Daffodil International University (DIU) hosted the “Swinburne’s Study Tour 2024: The Digital and Mobile Storytelling Festival.” This 14-day program, supported by the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan, brought together 22 students and two faculty members from Swinburne University of Technology in Australia.
The collaboration aimed to address key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 17, 11 and 5. Participants were divided into groups to focus on three core areas: urban life representation, child labor, and women’s empowerment. By utilizing digital storytelling techniques, students documented urban environments, explored the challenges faced by women, and shed light on the issue of child labor. Through their work, they contributed valuable data and insights that can inform policymakers and drive social change.
Global Health Research Collaboration
DIU partnered with Murray State University, USA, and Thammasat University, Thailand, focusing on joint research in public health data. This collaboration addresses global health challenges and promotes data exchange to improve health outcomes, directly contributing to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and fostering knowledge-sharing between institutions.
Training on Sustainable Land Management in India
Dr. Mahfuza Parveen from DIU attended a five-day training on sustainable land management, involving 19 participants from 12 countries. The training emphasized data gathering for ecosystem health, addressing SDG 15 and promoting sustainable land use practices globally.
International Conference on Green Sustainable Technology in Malaysia
DIU’s faculty members, including Dr. Mahfuza Parveen, contributed to discussions on sustainable practices at the conference. This collaboration provided a platform for exchanging data and strategies on sustainability, promoting international knowledge exchange and supporting SDG 13.
