Educational Outreach Activities Beyond Campus
This section details Daffodil International University's (DIU) educational outreach activities, which involve delivering tailored lectures, demonstrations, and sustained programs beyond the campus to local schools, organizations, and the general community. These initiatives directly align with the sustainability ranking indicator.
Public Health Study Site as an Educational Hub:
The Department of Public Health officially launched its Public Health Study Site in Bhabanipur, Savar, in collaboration with the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh. This site is specifically designed to serve as a hub for health research, education, and community outreach. By establishing a permanent, local center focused on health education for a hepatitis-free, smoke-free, and plastic-free community, DIU provides a free, accessible educational and health resource to the local population not enrolled at the university.
Free Health Screening and Awareness (World Hepatitis Day):
The Department of Public Health, in collaboration with the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh, organized a series of events for World Hepatitis Day 2025. This included free hepatitis testing for 150 people and a poster presentation aimed at public awareness. The provision of free testing coupled with educational materials is a direct example of providing free resources (health education and screening) to the public.
Training on Effective Classroom Management (Good Neighbors Bangladesh): HRDI delivered a targeted session to the dedicated teachers of Good Neighbors Bangladesh, providing effective tools for classroom management and fostering an engaging learning environment.
Mental Health Awareness at Daffodil Polytechnic Institute: A DIU psychologist facilitated two specialized mental health awareness sessions for both students and teachers of a local academic institution, focusing on resilience and support strategies—a directed, specialized vocational/well-being training for external educators and learners.
Sustainable Living Session for Community Group: An HRDI session on 'Sustainable Living: Small Change, Big Impact' was delivered to participants at the Bangladesh Training and Research Foundation, providing tailored, eco-friendly educational content for a community group.
Tailored Educational Content for External Professionals:
The training workshop on digital journalism for the journalists of the Chandpur Press Club provided hands-on learning and professional development. While the cost is not specified as "free," this specialized training represents the provision of valuable educational resources to external professionals in the community to advance their careers, often being subsidized or offered at no cost to external partners.
"Defeat Dengue: Awareness, Treatment, and Prevention Campaign": The Department of Pharmacy spearheaded this extensive social awareness program, which extended its educational focus beyond the university to the local community. The initiative involved delivering comprehensive information sessions on the symptoms, treatment, and, crucially, preventive measures related to dengue fever, empowering community members to take control of public health.
Plastic Waste Reduction Awareness in Cox's Bazar: Students from the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMC) Master's program conducted a focused public awareness drive targeting local students and restaurant workers in Cox's Bazar. This campaign highlighted the detrimental environmental and health effects of plastic waste through interactive educational sessions and concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to "reduce, reuse, and refuse plastic," serving as a model for community-level sustainability education.
Food Waste Reduction Awareness: Also organized by the Department of JMC, this field day concentrated on educating local students and restaurant workers on the environmental impact of food waste. The core of the program was to empower participants with practical strategies for waste reduction, translating academic knowledge into actionable community practices.
Manager Development Training (Dewhirst Group Bangladesh): HRDI hosted multiple batches of this training, focusing on "Empowered Leaders for Sustainable Growth" and "building resilient leaders." Attended by managers from the Dewhirst Group, the program utilized activity-based learning, peer discussions, and real-world simulations to enhance leadership and drive sustainable organizational growth within a partner corporation.
Microsoft Fabric Training (Data Crafters): HRDI supported this initiative, demonstrating the university’s commitment to continuous learning and innovation in IT. The program, which culminated in a certificate ceremony, provided external professionals with training on Microsoft Fabric, a key component of modern data analytics and engineering.
Collaborative Educational and Health Interventions
Collaboration for Children's Well-being at DISS: The Department of Public Health has an ongoing partnership, formalized by an MoU, with the Daffodil Institute of Social Science (DISS). This commitment involves providing regular healthcare services, nutritional assessments, and health education to the children at DISS, ensuring sustained support and education for a vulnerable local population (SDG 3, 4).
