1. International Collaboration with KOICA and WBAF on entrepreneurship development
On February 20, 2022, a high-level delegation from KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) and WBAF (World Business Angel Investment Forum) visited Daffodil International University, Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia to explore possible collaboration in entrepreneurship development between KOICA and the university, particularly with the Department of Innovation & Entrepreneurship. The visit was attended by a group of 13 high officials, including the Country Director of KOICA Bangladesh. The major goal of the meeting was to combine the strengths of two parties in order to promote & support entrepreneurs in every way possible.
2. "Virtual Postgraduate Research Summit 2022" Focusing collaboration & best practices
Three days long "Virtual Postgraduate Research Summit 2022", highlighting the need for conducting research on SDGs as set by the UN, was held on 27 February to 1 March 2022 with the vibrant involvement of nearly 70 fellow enthusiastic researchers and participants from 16 countries across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, South, and North America. Dr. Tay Huay Ling, Associate Professor, Singapore University of Social Science, Singapore, Prof. Mohammed Masum Iqbal, PhD, Dean, Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship, DIU and Prof. Dr. Md Kabirul Islam, Director, Division of Research, DIU joined the Closing Ceremony to share their valuable remarks on research collaboration & best practices. Before the Closing Ceremony, the most expected session of the summit was held, entitled ‘Research Method: Quantitative Research’ conducted by Professor T. Ramayah, Professor, School of Management, USM, Malaysia where he shared a depth concept and strategies of the outcome-based quality research. Having the motto "Towards a Garden of Researchers’, The Department of Information Technology and Management at Daffodil International University (DIU) in Bangladesh and the Graduate School of Business at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Malaysia are jointly hosting this summit with the support of International Affairs, DIU.
3. Collaboration with SI Alumni Network in BD and Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka for Waste management and Inclusiveness
Reuse the past, Recycle the present, Save the Future; with this theme the precautionary program was organized under the title "Waste management and Inclusiveness" at Daffodil International University. The program was organized by SI Alumni Network in BD and Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka, Supported by Swedish Institute (SI), Sweden and hosted by Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering, DIU.
4. Bangladesh and China Youth Talk on Best Practices in SDGs implementation
DIU Belt and Road Research Center (DIUBRRC) organized its very first Chinese Corner under the name of “Bangladesh and China Youth Talk on Best Practices in SDGs implementation” with the collaboration of Overseas Education School of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, China. The main objective of the program was to develop a bilateral relationship between the two nations through cross cultural activities, sharing best practices in SDGs implementation and conducting research in a blended platform.
Whole arrangement was to bring together two nations with illustrious history of culture under the motto of "we are one." Two nations upheld their respective cultural identity through activities like song, dance and calligraphy and shared best practices to implement various SDGs. The participants of the program came to know about the views and ethnic values of each other. More importantly, they are upgrading the self-identity to the global extent with an international exposure of culture.
This program commenced with the welcoming speech of the Session Chair Professor Dr. Mohammed Masum Iqbal, Director of DIU Belt and Road Research Center. Then Chief Guest Professor Dr. (Darcy) Weihua Ye, Dean, Overseas Education School and Special Guest Professor James Yu, Director of International School, College of Humanities kept their valuable remarks to initiate the inauguration of yearlong activities.
5. DIU Delegation Attended the ‘Magna Charta Observatory’ Living Values Project meeting and Shared the Best Pracices
A delegation of Daffodil International University (DIU), Bangladesh led by Dr. Mohamed Emran Hossain, Director (Administration) actively attended the 3-day ‘Magna Charta Observatory’ Living Values Project meeting and workshop hosted by Stockholm University, Sweden from 20 to 22 June, 2022 with the objectives of reviewing and developing the Living Values methodology, sharing experience on practical aspects of autonomy, academic freedom and putting values into practice along with meeting among ambassadors and paired universities to start working together.
All the participating university members interacted with leading international speakers on academic freedom, university autonomy and studied how the project had brought benefits in previous phases. They learnt from President of Stockholm University, Professor Astrid Söderbergh Widding along with other distinguished speakers about their insights and best practices of similar previous Living Values and started forming into a global group that will bring benefits to MCO signatories for years to come. DIU is one of the active members of Magna Charta Observatory since 2018 and actively engaged in the initiatives to bring core values of education in institutional strategic priority and towards community.
6. Erasmus Lab Established in collaboration with EU Erasmus+
This is for the first time in Bangladesh, Erasmus+ Capacity Building Higher Education (CBHE) Harmony Project Lab was inaugurated at Daffodil International University, Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia, Dhaka with a view of extending quality education, internationalization, virtual mobility and trainings. H. E. Charles Whiteley, Ambassador, and Head of Delegation of the European Union in Bangladesh inaugurated the Lab as the Chief Guest while Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BoT, Daffodil International University was present as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Dr. S M Mahabub Ul Haque Mazumder, Pro Vice Chancellor, presided over the program. The inaugural ceremony was also virtually addressed by Dr. Rafael de Miguel González, Harmony Project Grant Coordinator and Associate Dean for International Relations, Faculty of Education, University of Zaragoza, Spain and Dr. Md. Ashiqur Rahman, President, Erasmus Mundus Association.
7. International Collaboration and Best Practice Sharing with Bhutanese Government Delegation
To explore the academic and institutional excellences of Daffodil International University (DIU), Bangladesh, a delegation of three members led by Rinzin Jamtsho, Honorable Member of Parliament, Bhutan Government visited DIU at Daffodil Smart City. The delegation was also accompanied by Mr. Namgay, Managing Proprietor, Norzang Enterprise, Phuntsholing, Bhutan and Mr. Rinchen Pelzang, Technical Executive, Bhutan Seedlings Nursery Farm, Punakha, Bhutan.
The delegation had an effective meeting with Dean of FBE and Dean of FHSS along with Teachers of Department of Development Studies and International Affairs, DIU officials to discuss collaborative future prospects such as sharing best practices, welcoming Bhutanese students to study at DIU and exchange of youth delegation between Bangladesh and Bhutan. Currently DIU is having a good number of foreign students studying at DIU including some students from Bhutan both in Bachelor and Masters level.
