1. Involvement of DIU in identifying the Challenges and Difficulties of Jamdani Weavers at Boragaon, Sonargaon (Cultural Heritage Policy)
The Department of Architecture, Daffodil International University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sheva Nari O Shishu Kallyan Kendra & REVIVAL, Chattogram, Bangladesh for “Design-BUILD of Jamdani Weaver’s House to Achieve SDGs”.
The Department of Architecture, Daffodil International University (DIU) and REVIVAL & Sheva, under the agreement, organized a three-day long participatory residential research workshop during 23-25th June 2022 at Boragaon, Sonargaon, Narayanganj, Bangladesh. The workshop was conducted in the house of Md. Jamal Hossain, a master weaver from Sonargaon, who used to weave with a thread count of 200 to 300. Students from 9 universities and architects, and professionals from 5 different organizations worked tirelessly day and night to document the weaving process, the living condition and challenges faced by the weavers, and the context of the village. Sheikh Muhammad Rezwan, Head, Department of Architecture, DIU and Huda Mohammed Faisal, Co-founder, Revival facilitated the workshop with the help of Sheva. The workshop helped to identify challenges faced by Jamdani weavers and to find strategies to overcome those and to formulate necessary policy to ensure protection of local cultural heritage of “Jamdani”.
2. Adventurous study tour of the Duke of Edinburgh Awardees to Sylhet
A group of 13 awardees (students) of the Duke of Edinburgh Award went to an adventurous tour led by Mr. Rashedul Islam, Senior Lecturer, Department of Journalism, Media and Communication, DIU. Ms. Fahmi Hasan, Senior Administrative Officer, Office of the Director of the Students’ Affairs, DIU from 30th November 2021 to 1st December 2021 at Srimongol, Sylhet.
This adventurous tour provided awardees with the opportunity to learn more about the wider environment, as well as to develop their self-confidence and teamwork. Awardees were taken out of their comfort zone in an unfamiliar environment but kept within a safe and secure setting, achieved through suitable training and supervision.
3. Photo walk Day Event for Students Organized Outside campus
Students of the Department of Architecture of Daffodil International University attended the Photo walk day event, organized outside the campus. The objective of the event was to introduce students with outside environment and to learn from the outside community.
4. Outreach Awareness Program on Pollution free Green Environment
The students of the “Art of Living Course” of Daffodil International University conducted an outreach Awareness program on ensuring pollution free green environment among the local community surrounding DIU campus. The students distributed leaflets to local people and encouraged them to practice cleanliness and keeping the surrounding environment pollution and dust free which will help build a sustainable earth for all.
5. Students Outreach Program organized by Architecture Department
The Grammo Revival 4th Chapter, Organized by Ar. Sheikh Muhammad Rezwan, Senior Lecturer, Department of Architecture traveled to the Akhlaspur, Matlab uttar, Chandpur with a team of students and teachers from the Department of Architecture and Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management of Daffodil International University and also the Department of Law from East-West University and Department of Architecture from State University of Bangladesh. The purpose of the outreach program is to learn the context of the village, water quality of river, river bank area, people’s lifestyle & biodiversity, rural homestead survey etc.
6. Community Level Outreach Seminar on "Necessity of voluntary activities in Community Level"
Department of Pharmacy, Daffodil International University organized a seminar on "Necessity of voluntary activities in Community Level" on April 10, 2022 at International Conference Hall, Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia. Dr. Mozammel Haque khan, Chief National Commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts and Commissioner, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was present at the program as the chief guest and keynote speaker. Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor and Professor Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro-Vice Chancellor was present as the special guests. Students and Faculties were highly motivated and satisfied as well as learnt a lot of things about scouting philosophies and voluntary activities. The seminar will make a lasting impression on the students which will motivate them to get involved in voluntary community development activities.
7. The DIU Policy Covered the Outreach Activities
The clause number 8 of DIU policy on Women Access, Participation, Counseling and Mentoring clearly highlighted the responsible department to carry out outreach activities:
8. DSA in collaboration with NGOs, educational institutions, local community will carry out outreach activities to encourage the women to get admitted in different subjects such as, engineering, mathematics, journalism, real estate etc. where they are underrepresented.
