Collaboration with NGOs to Tackle SDGs

Collaboration with GLTS for Combating Climate Change

 

Daffodil International University (DIU) and the Global Law Thinkers Society (GLTS) have formed a strategic partnership aimed at addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges: climate change, youth leadership, and the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This collaboration, which focuses on pivotal areas such as climate finance, climate justice, and loss and damage, marks a significant step toward fostering global cooperation and youth-driven action. DIU and GLTS are also preparing to participate in major international climate platforms, including COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. This partnership is set to amplify youth leadership on climate change through joint research initiatives, workshops, training, and active participation in both national and international climate forums. A key focus will be their coordinated efforts at UNFCCC COP & SB Conferences, where they will advocate for actionable policies and concrete measures addressing the climate crisis. It will also support broader SDG initiatives, promoting environmental sustainability, peace, justice, and global education.

Collaboration with NGOs: Aranyak Foundation, Oxfam, GFRSD, GCCCE, BARCIK and LEDARS on Tackling Climate Change

DIU collaborated with NGOs like: Aranyak Foundation, Oxfam in Bangladesh, Global Forum for Sustainable Rural Development (GFRSD), Global Center for Climate Change and Environment, BARCIK, LEDARS to tackle the effects of climate change. DIU in association with these NGOs organized the South Asian Conference on "Unfolding Emerging Issues in the Context  of Changing Climatic Scenarios". The event  provided a platform for robust discussions and innovative solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change. The conference aimed to facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders.

The contributions of Daffodil International University have been instrumental in advancing climate resilience and promoting collaborative action to address the complex challenges posed  by climate change in South Asia.

Collaboration with Nestlé Nutrition Institute for Developing Online Educational Resources

A new initiative in purpose of capability building and knowledge enhancement for Rural Medical Practitioners (RMPs) of Bangladesh on science and nutrition, Nestlé Nutrition Institute  in collaboration with Daffodil International University Bangladesh (DIU) started to develop an online certification education course named “Certification Program on Child Health and Nutrition (CPCN)”.

Collaboration with Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA), UKAid Project on Saving Mothers, Protecting the Womb

The "Saving Mothers, Protecting the Womb" is an innovative and unique action research project undertaken by Daffodil International University funded by Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA), UKAID. It addresses a critical issue at the intersection of climate change, public health, gender and technology, offering a holistic approach to improving the well-being of marginalized coastal pregnant women in Bangladesh. The project installs a low-cost solar panel rotator called ‘SolarAchieve’ that harnesses solar energy efficiently by combining gravity to produce safe, clean drinking water. The innovation lies in its simplicity and affordability, as users can assemble it using readily available local materials like wood or bamboo. The SolarAchieve is regarded as a low-cost, sustainable solution to the water salinity problem. This unique project recognizes the impact of climate change beyond environmental concerns and directly affects maternal health. Its outcomes and enhanced community resilience serves as indicators of the project's effectiveness.

Collaboration with National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh (NLFB) for NOhep Village Initiative 

DIU's Department of Public Health collaborated with the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh (NLFB) on the NOhep Village initiative, a comprehensive health program aimed at promoting liver health and preventing hepatitis. This initiative involves widespread awareness campaigns, community health education, and preventive healthcare measures to reduce liver disease prevalence in rural areas. The National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh (NLFB) is a not for profit organization, dedicated to Prevention, Treatment, Education and Research on liver diseases in Bangladesh.

DIU students play a significant role in this initiative by volunteering for health education drives and conducting surveys to assess the health needs of these communities. They receive hands-on experience in public health while making a tangible impact​​.

DIU and HerNet Foundation Support for "Bangladesh Decides The Youth Speaks”


DIU Voluntary Service Club provided voluntary support at the prestigious "Bangladesh Decides The Youth Speaks" event hosted by HerNet Foundation in collaboration with the European Union at Daffodil International University.

Free Healthcare Initiative by Daffodil Bandhushobha

As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of Prothom Alo, DIU’s Daffodil Bandhushobha club organized a free healthcare campaign in Ashulia, Dhaka. The event provided medical services to over 200 underprivileged individuals, offering general health check-ups, consultations, and essential medications. This initiative supported SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by improving healthcare access for vulnerable populations. DIU students volunteered as part of this program, assisting healthcare professionals and engaging with community members to educate them on basic health and hygiene practices. This activity not only benefited the recipients but also provided students with invaluable experience in community health work​.

Tele-nutrition Program Focused on Adolescents


Led by Dr. Arif Chowdhury Apou and Umme Habiba Tanny from DIU’s Department of Public Health, this tele-nutrition program aimed to improve adolescent health by offering tailored dietary guidance and nutrition education. The initiative addressed SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by promoting healthy eating habits and ensuring food security among adolescents. In collaboration with NGOs, the program extended its services to reach underserved communities, where students volunteered to assist in nutritional assessments and deliver health education. This effort empowered young people with the knowledge and resources needed for better health outcomes, reinforcing the impact of collaborative public health initiatives​.

Preventive Oncology Collaboration with Gonoshasthaya Community-Based Cancer Hospital

DIU’s faculty members from the public health department collaborated with Gonoshasthaya Community-Based Cancer Hospital to explore preventive oncology research. This partnership aims to raise awareness about cancer prevention and improve access to preventive healthcare services. The collaboration contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by focusing on early detection and lifestyle interventions to reduce cancer risks. Students from DIU actively participate in this project, gaining exposure to community-based health initiatives and enhancing their understanding of preventive healthcare practices.

Dengue Prevention and Control Awareness Event


DIU’s Department of Public Health organized a community-focused event to raise awareness about dengue prevention and control. The program involved collaboration with local health-focused NGOs and engaged students as volunteers. The volunteers helped distribute informational materials, conducted awareness sessions on mosquito control, and demonstrated practices to prevent the spread of dengue. This initiative supported SDG 3 by promoting public health education and preventative measures, demonstrating the university's commitment to safeguarding community health through student-led volunteer efforts​.
