Collaboration with Yunus Centre, Dhaka and ASECU to organize e-Master Class on SDGs related issues: Social Business in Zeroing Poverty, Unemployment & Net-carbon Emissions


Daffodil International University (DIU) in collaboration with Yunus Centre, Dhaka and ASECU organized the e-Master Class on ‘Social Business in Zeroing Poverty, Unemployment & Net-carbon Emissions: A Fresh Start to Eradicate the Problems Created by COVID-19 Pandemic’ by the Novel Laureate Professor Mohammad Yunus during the 5th edition of Virtual International Social Business Summer Program (ISBSP) 2021. Around 135 participants from 37 universities and 21 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, North and South America attended the e-Master Class.

DISS Meeting with a team from UNICEF and Civil Society


A team from UNICEF, Department of Social Services, Civil Society recently visited the Daffodil Institute of Social Sciences (DISS). DIU Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. S. M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder along with Ms. Nazgul Choloponbaeva, Child protection Officer, UNICEF, Asif Munir, Civil Society, Morshed Bilal Khan and Amran Khan, Project Director, DISS had a meeting. They had a successful discussion regarding, Child protection policy, Ground work, Social reintegration and Child selection procedure of DISS with the visitors. DISS always gives priority to share any opinion, observation and suggestion from all aspects like Government, NGOs, and other National, International organizations besides Civil Society of Bangladesh to build DISS as a Role Model to all over the Country.

Collaboration with HEC Montréal, Canada; and SBSF, Bangladesh to host Regional Final of Social Business Creation (SBC) Competition 2021


Daffodil International University hosted the 3rd edition of the Regional Final of Social Business Creation (SBC) Competition 2021 in collaboration with HEC Montréal, Canada; and supported by Social Business Students' Forum (SBSF). His Excellency Benoit Préfontaine, High Commissioner, High Commission of Canada to Bangladesh has graced the Closing & Prize Giving Ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Collaboration with Asia-Europe Foundation in Organizing ASEF Summer University 2021 on “Liveable Cities for a Sustainable Future” (SDG-11)


Asia-Europe Foundation – ASEF in partnership with Daffodil International University (DIU), Bangladesh and other international partners organized the 23rd ASEF Summer University 2021 (ASEFSU23) on “Liveable Cities for a Sustainable Future” (SDG-11). DIU has been playing a significant role as the country representative of Bangladesh. This is a 3-month long (Sep-Nov) virtual Hackathon programme to encourage youths from over 40 countries to develop digital prototypes that can contribute to solving crucial challenges linked to urban issues in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. As a part of the consecutive segments of the Hackathon, a web session on ‘Creating Clean Cities: Tackling Waste Management in Dhaka’ was organized on October 21, 2021. It was a great gathering of Waste Management practicing organizations and expert speakers in this field to disseminate Bangladesh perspectives among the dynamic local and international attendees.
Mr. Tariq bin Yousuf, Additional Chief Engineer & Project Director, Dhaka North City Corporation along with Mr. Khadem Mahmud Yusuf, Managing Director & CEO of Bangladesh Petrochemical Company Ltd. (BPCL) have been the speakers to share present practices, future ventures of this industry, and challenges of this field in the country's perspective. The session was moderated by Mr. Sheikh Mohammad Rezwan, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Architecture, DIU. The session provided the participants with local insights and introduced contemporary burning issues as well as updated them on the diverse challenges linked to waste management in Dhaka Metropolitan Area.

Collaboration with Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences to change socio-economic condition of deprived community


DISS has been initiated to bring the learning opportunity for the deprived community children and the concept of the initiative is more like KISS of Bhubaneswar. DISS and KISS will work together in partnership to change the socio-economic condition of those deprived community. Gradually DISS will make collaboration with different institute for their further study/training opportunities at home & abroad. They will also make collaboration with Industries for their employment opportunity. The objective of this collaboration is to bring some benefits both for students, teachers, and institute and as a whole to the society. DISS has the objective to develop the young children with required industry skills, professional etiquette and mind set up. Since the target audience of DISS is very young population, so DISS extended its hands with Government and NGOs for knowledge sharing, teacher’s development and also different association and organizations, industries for their employment, awarding bodies for recognition from International Authorities and Job Opportunities.

SBSF of Daffodil University and Aging Support Forum working together for ensuring equality for elderly people


The 5th edition of the Youth Summit on Aging-2021 titled “Digital Equity for All Ages” was jointly organized by the Social Business Students Forum of Daffodil International University and the Aging Support Forum during 7 to 25 October 2021 at DIU premises which was inaugurated by Major General Jeeban Kanai Das, Country Director of the Sir William Beverage Foundation, as the Chief Guest. Youth Summit on Ageing is an intergenerational program where older adults and youth come together to share time and experiences. The Summit aims at raising awareness about the importance of digital inclusion of elderly people as well as stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination associated with digitalization. It involved the sharing of skills, knowledge or experience between old and young and motivated young people to start community based aged-care and support voluntarily. As part of the summit, various training and awareness workshops were arranged on how to ensure maximum use of information technology by seniors using mobile phones. President of Aging Support Forum Hasan Ali presided over the function. Elders from different parts of the country are participating in the summit.

DIU Faculty Nominated as the Coordinator of Innovation education and lifelong learning project of WUACD


Syed Mizanur Rahman, Head, Department of General Educational Development, Daffodil International University has been nominated as the coordinator of Innovation education and lifelong learning project of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Indonesia based World University Association for Community Development (WUACD). He has been nominated for the next two years. This project will work for ensuring implementation of relevant SDGs.

Organized Webinar on "Catalyzing Youth and Innovation towards Crisis Response" with Global Compact Network Bangladesh


The Global Compact Network Bangladesh (GCNB) and Daffodil International University jointly organized the webinar on "Catalyzing Youth and Innovation towards Crisis Response" in association with Global Compact Network Sri Lanka on 14 January 2021. This webinar took a closer look at the way youths are using innovative ways to find solutions to problems posed by the COVID-19 Pandemic and convene a Panel discussion with youth leaders from Academia, Government and the private sector of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
