Collaboration with NGOs to tackle the SDGs

1. Seminar on Public Opinion - Master Plan of Gulistan Skywalk held at Daffodil International University: (Related to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities)


As part of developing Smart Cities, Daffodil International University along with Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) Bangladesh organized a Seminar on Public Opinion - Master Plan of Gulistan Skywalk on 25th May 2019 at 71 Milonayaton, Ground Floor, Daffodil tower, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The seminar was graced by the presence of Mofiz Uddin Ahmed PPM, Joint Police Commissioner (Traffic - South), Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Research outcome of the 4th Year students of DIU studying in Department of architecture was shared with the audience. An exhibition was also held with three different proposals on how the future scenario of Gulistan will be changed due to MRT station. The aim of the proposals was to solve existing problems regarding traffic management in Gulistan having the future problems in mind too. The best possible solution came from the research is skywalk. The proposal will help to develop an easier traffic management, ensure safe passage of the people along with ensuring road safety.

2. Daffodil-Nordic Joint Collaboration to Tackle the Challenges Towards Achieving SDGs


Daffodil Nordic Ltd (http://daffodil-nordic.com/) is a spin-off established by a group of Finnish-Bangladeshi nationals. The cardinal objective for Daffodil Nordic Ltd is to bring in positive social developmental impacts through engaging ventures and initiatives, in close cooperation with companies, government and non-government organizations of Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway & Iceland) in Bangladesh for tackling the challenges towards achieving SDGs. The center is primarily focused on developing skilled human resources and bringing social transformative changes into the following areas:
• Health Management (SDG-3)
• Quality Education & Training (SDG-4)
• Environmental Management (SDG 7, 8, 11, 12 & 13)

3. Round Table Discussion with NGOs and Civil Society on ‘Angel Investment in Bangladesh: The Way Forward’ to Implement the Angel Investment in Bangladesh (Tackling the Challenges towards SDGs)


On November 21, 2019, Daffodil International University, in association with Venture Capital and Private Equity Association of Bangladesh (VCPEAB), has organized a policy dialogue titled “Investment Opportunities for Startups in Bangladesh- A Policy Dialogue with Ecosystem Stakeholders” where public and private entrepreneurship ecosystem stakeholders of Bangladesh were present to share their views on best practices on tackling the challenges of innovation and industrial development through investment focusing SDGs and to develop a relevant and conducive policy to ensure the same.

4. Collaboration with Government and NGO (FNF Bangladesh) to Implement Dhaka Smart City


On October 31, 2019 Department of Architecture (DoA), DIU presented their research work converted into idea proposal at DTCA (Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority) conference room, Nagar Bhaban for pedestrian integration with BRT,MRT and Expressway. Prof. Khairul Enam, Head, DoA and Sk. Md. Rezwan, Sr. Lecturer presented the work for due consideration. Mr. Nasim Hawlader from DSA and Mr. Omar Mostafiz from FNF Bangladesh were present during the presentation. Daffodil International University and The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), Bangladesh (FNF Bangladesh) are continuously working in the area of mobility to make Dhaka Smart city. The meeting concluded with the remark that an inter-ministerial meeting is needed for the project. Around 15 officials from deputy secretary to engineers attended the presentation and praised the effort.

5. Seminar on ‘Online Violence against Women: Bangladesh Context’


The Department of Law of Daffodil International University and FNF Bangladesh (NGO) since its inception are playing an important role to protect the online violence against women by conducting special classes, by arranging seminar, workshop, conference and other relevant programs for the women, youth and social media enthusiasts to bring awareness about the online violence and cyber security as well. The objective of this summit was to bring stakeholders together to share their collective valuable opinion, viewpoints and research papers on “Online Violence against Women: Bangladesh Context”. The outcome of the seminar will be submitted as a report in varies law farm and research compendium which will further help in devising policy of users with respect to protect online violence against women in Bangladesh perspective.

6. National Final of ‘Get In the Ring 2019-2020’ Bangladesh chapter organized by Daffodil International University in partnership with Friedrich Naumann Foundation and Get in the Ring Foundation (Collaboration with NGO)
Daffodil International University (DIU) hosted the Bangladesh National Final of Get in the Ring 2019-2020’ Bangladesh chapter a global startup competition. DIU is hosting the third season of Get in the Ring 2019-2020, Bangladesh along with Friedrich Naumann Foundation and Bengal Media Corporation Limited (Rtv) as Organizing Partner while Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd. as Investment partner and Skill Jobs as Grooming Partner. This year, the 6th edition is aiming to see finals take place in more than 150 countries world-wide. Bangladesh is one of them. Now, Daffodil International University where more than 20,000 students are currently studying has got the only exclusive licensee of Get in the Ring to organize in Bangladesh.


Get in the Ring (GITR), known as “the Olympics for startups” puts startups in the spotlight, giving them a global podium from which to connect with investors and create a fan base. It works as a bridge between the promising startups worldwide and the potential investors. Two startups battle head-to-head in a ring via pitches. A battle between two teams consists of five brief rounds of 5 minuets 30-second about the team, achievements, the business model and its finances. During the rounds they present their startup to a jury of Champion investors, and a global audience of potential investors and fans, in a competition that can result in a potential investment for the winner. Through a knock-out system the companies fight through Local, National and Regional Finals all the way to the International Final. Along the way the entrepreneurs are given pitch training, advice about their businesses, and the opportunity to get in contact with investors, business leaders, potential customers and like-minded entrepreneurs. People of all ages with start-ups can participate in this competition.

7. Daffodil International University and Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital & Nursing College jointly organized a Free Medical Camp (SDG-3)


Daffodil International University and Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital & Nursing College jointly organized a Free Medical Camp (Basic Health Check Up, Medical Officer Prescription, Dietitian Prescription, Blood Donation) at the permanent campus of the university, Ashulia, Savar, Dhaka. The Health awareness talk was organized to create awareness among students, faculty members and all stakeholders regarding primary remedy and prevention regarding some health problems and checkup. This type of awareness program will facilitate ensure the good health (SDG-3) of DIU stakeholders.
