Policy on Academic Freedom in Research and Teaching

Created in 2022

Daffodil International University (DIU) is committed to upholding academic freedom in research and teaching, promoting an environment where faculty and students can freely explore, innovate, and share knowledge. This freedom enables intellectual growth and creativity, provided that academic work respects ethical standards, national interests, and religious harmony.

Scope and Principles

  1. Academic Freedom in Research and Teaching
Faculty and students are encouraged to pursue scholarly activities, explore diverse perspectives, and engage in open inquiry. DIU supports the free exchange of ideas, provided research and teaching respect societal values, avoid disrupting religious harmony, and remain sensitive to the national interest.

  2. Ethical Standards and Responsibility
All academic activities must adhere to high ethical standards, maintaining integrity, objectivity, and inclusivity. Faculty are expected to create a respectful classroom environment that honors diverse viewpoints while upholding national values and promoting constructive dialogue across beliefs and backgrounds.

  3. Faculty Research Ethics Committee
The Faculty Research Ethics Committees of DIU oversee the ethical integrity of research and teaching, ensuring alignment with DIU’s principles of academic freedom and ethical responsibility. Each committee provides guidance on sensitive topics, mediates concerns, and ensures that no academic work undermines national or cultural cohesion.

This policy reinforces DIU’s dedication to fostering intellectual freedom while balancing ethical responsibilities, national interests, and cultural harmony.
