Community Outreach 2025
Daffodil International University (DIU) maintains a proactive and multi-dimensional outreach strategy, extending its academic, health, and technical resources to the local and national community. Through a diverse portfolio of projects—ranging from free medical clinics and professional corporate training to sustainable agricultural support and disaster relief—the university serves as a vital hub for community development. These initiatives, driven by specialized departments such as Public Health, Agricultural Science, and the Human Resource Development Institute (HRDI), ensure that the university’s expertise directly addresses real-world challenges, fostering resilience, health, and economic empowerment across the region.
Community Health Outreach: Free Medical Camps and Consultations
In a major effort to improve local health outcomes, the DIU Air Rover Scout Group, in collaboration with the DIU Medical Center, organized a large-scale Free Medical Camp at Ashulia School and College. The outreach project provided free medical consultations and essential medicines to over 500 patients from the local community, while more than 400 individuals received blood group testing. Beyond clinical services, the initiative integrated public health education on dengue prevention and environmental sustainability, specifically promoting the reduction of single-use plastics to ensure a healthier living environment for the local population.
Agricultural Recovery and Food Security for Marginal Farmers
The Department of Agricultural Science leads extensive outreach to support the livelihoods of marginal farmers, particularly in flood-affected regions like Noakhali and Lalmonirhat. The university distributed over 2.5 lakh vegetable seedlings and 2,500 improved fruit tree saplings to help families rebuild their agricultural capacity and ensure long-term food security. By producing and distributing millions of high-yield rice seedlings (Bina Dhan-17 and 20) free of charge, DIU provides a critical information and supply service that empowers vulnerable communities to recover from climate-related disasters and transition toward sustainable farming practices.
Professional Education and Information Services for Corporate Teams
DIU’s Human Resource Development Institute (HRDI) delivers high-impact educational outreach by providing specialized training to local industries and organizations. Notable projects include a 16-hour intensive "Essential English for Business Writing" program for ACI PLC and "Foundation Training for Interactive Teaching" for Meghna Group of Industries (MGI) educators. These services bridge the gap between academia and the professional sector, enhancing workplace communication, pedagogical effectiveness, and technical skills (such as forensic accounting and fraud detection) for the regional workforce.
Humanitarian Information and Services for Hajj Pilgrims
Demonstrating a commitment to specialized community service, the DIU Air Rover Scout Group dedicated a full month to providing humanitarian assistance at the National Hajj Camp. This outreach project focused on providing information services, wheelchair support, and logistical guidance to thousands of pilgrims. By managing rest facilities and guiding vulnerable elderly community members through complex travel procedures, DIU students and staff embody the university’s mission of serving humanity through organized, empathetic community engagement.
Public Health Literacy and Specialized Awareness Campaigns
The university manages a continuous calendar of information services aimed at raising public health literacy on critical issues such as breast cancer, hypertension, and diabetes. In collaboration with global and national health organizations, the Department of Public Health organizes seminars and rallies, such as the "Pink Month" breast cancer awareness event and the "Defeat Dengue" campaign. These projects provide the local community with vital information on early detection and preventive measures, often accompanied by free screenings and expert consultations at local high schools and community centers.
Academic and Research Partnerships for Community AI Solutions
The Health Informatics Research Lab (HIRL) at DIU signed a strategic MoU with the Human Aid Bangladesh Foundation to deliver AI-driven medical solutions for the Dhaka district. This partnership leverages the university’s technical expertise in Artificial Intelligence to enhance patient outcomes in local healthcare facilities. By sharing healthcare data and research insights, the university acts as a technical consultant and service provider, ensuring that cutting-edge technology is utilized to improve the social welfare and health infrastructure of the local population.
Strategic Outreach for Vulnerable Children (DISS Partnership)
The Department of Public Health formalized a long-term community service project by signing an MoU with the Daffodil Institute of Social Science (DISS). This initiative ensures regular healthcare services, nutritional assessments, and health education for vulnerable children. By providing consistent medical interventions and wellness tracking, the university acts as a primary health partner for the institute, ensuring that underserved children have access to high-quality healthcare and nutritional guidance for a healthier future.
Field-Based Health Education and Census Initiatives
DIU students and faculty engage in direct field outreach through initiatives like the "NOhep Village Mission" census in Vobanipur. By visiting local community leaders, schools, and madrasas, a 13-member DIU team gathered vital health data to support hepatitis prevention and community-driven interventions. These field visits, along with BPH student-led health education videos for pregnant women, serve as essential information services that translate complex medical data into actionable health advice for the local population.
Industry Dialogue and Micro-Credentialing for Healthcare Innovation
The DIU Micro-Credentials Academy manages outreach seminars such as “Shaping Micro-Credentials for the Future – Focus on Biomedical Science.” By bringing together international experts from Texas A&M and Purdue University with local health scientists, DIU provides the community and industry professionals with access to the latest innovations in nanofiber biomedical technology and digital health. These programs ensure that local healthcare providers and students stay at the forefront of global medical advancements, fostering an innovation-driven healthcare ecosystem.
Blood Donation and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Description: Through the "Daffodil Lifeline" event, organized in collaboration with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, the university manages a major annual blood donation drive for the community. This life-saving outreach project addresses the critical need for safe blood supplies in local hospitals. By mobilizing hundreds of student and staff donors, DIU fulfills its role as a socially responsible institution that provides essential medical resources to the general public, strengthening the national healthcare support system.
Daffodil International University’s outreach portfolio represents a comprehensive commitment to the holistic development of the local community. By effectively managing projects across health, agriculture, professional education, and disaster relief, the university ensures that its institutional values are translated into tangible benefits for society. Whether through the distribution of millions of seedlings to restore livelihoods or the provision of free medical care to hundreds of families, DIU’s community engagement programs create a sustainable and lasting impact, reinforcing its role as a socially responsible leader in higher education.
